Raanana Trip to the Negev

Raanana Trip to the Negev

ESRA Raanana Trip to the Negev

Wednesday 11 December | 7:30

We will be visiting the Blaustein Institute of Desert Research (BIDR) Campus of Ben Gurion University located near Kibbutz Sde Boker. BIDR is the realization of Ben Gurion’s vision of “making the desert bloom” as a recognized world leader in performing cutting edge research in sustainable land development, specifically in the areas of providing food, water and energy for sustainable land development. BIDR is also a degree granting institution, awarding Masters and PhD's in desert research. While at BIDR we will be treated to an hour-long lecture from one of the researchers there, as well as an easy walking tour of the campus.

Thereafter, we will be taken on a short bus trip for lunch at Kibbutz Sde Boker (Ben Gurion’s home kibbutz) at the Kibbutz’s kosher eating hall. The buffet lunch will cost NIS 50 and is a meat buffet. Of course, if you wish, you may bring your own lunch and eat nearby.

After lunch, we will board the bus and proceed to Kibbutz Nirim to do some shopping. We have worked to put together a “shuk” of local artisans who will have various gift items for purchase as gifts for Hanuka and other occasions. Over coffee and cake, we will also listen to a talk given by a local school teacher about life near the Gaza Strip.
