Kfar Shmaryahu Youth Club

A social framework for young people with disabilities aimed at reducing the loneliness of social isolation and allowing them to develop social skills.

The Problem

Handicapped young adults need social activities with peers just as much as any young person. However, the handicapped often find themselves socially isolated and lacking a suitable framework for their needs. Such social isolation greatly exacerbates whatever problems they are already coping with.

The Solution

Offer handicapped young adults a social framework, reducing their isolation and providing them with the opportunity to develop their social skills.

The Method

A salaried professional acts as group leader at weekly meetings and organizes social activities, special  events and programs such as parties, encounters with interesting people, trips, cultural performances, ‎special courses, and so on.‎ Special events have included a photography course culminating in an exhibition at Kfar Shmaryahu's Weil ‎Center, organized together with volunteer students from the world of media. Another special project was a ‎radio communications workshop, together with students of the Netanya Academic College. Following the ‎five-week workshop, students and participants together produced a one-hour radio broadcast. Last year ‎the group ended the year with a night trip to the Ramat Gan Safari Park.‎

14 young adults from the Sharon area. They are joined by volunteers from ESRA.
