Being the Bridge
Connections Between the American Jewish Community and Israel
with Julie Fisher

Julie arrived in Tel Aviv with her husband, Daniel Shapiro, and their three children in 2011. In her role as the spouse of the US Ambassador, she engaged with educational, medical, and philanthropic institutions around Israel. Highlighting the partnerships between the United States and Israel, she coordinated programs throughout the country to support the goals of the US State Department, including engaging minority communities, promoting women’s health, advancing religious pluralism, and supporting educational and cultural exchange programs.

Julie was the president of Diplomatic Spouses of Israel and worked to build cultural connections, engaging in charitable and volunteer projects throughout Israel. Under her leadership, the group doubled in size, expanded its philanthropic focus and achieved greater prominence by gaining audiences with Israel’s top leaders.

Over the past eight years, Julie has taken a personal interest in the safety, care, and education of the children of African asylum seekers in South Tel Aviv and has worked with NGOs and other partners to improve conditions in schools and childcare facilities through fundraisers and hands-on repair projects.
