"I have been tutoring Danyo and his brother Itzhak for over a year. Each week they come to my home, the elder for a two hour session, the younger for an hour. Danyo, in 11th grade at a local religious high school which specializes in science, is very hard working and ambitious. He came to me determined to do 5 point Bagrut in English even though his teacher told him that his grades were not good enough. Hence, he remained in the class for 3 points and worked with me on material for the 4 and 5 point course. After achieving 100 on the 3 point Bagrut exam this spring, he is now in the 4 point class in school and hopefully, will be in the 5 point class in the fall.
I accompanied Danyo for registration in a special program at Yad Lebanim to prepare Ethiopian immigrants for service in the Air Force, specifically to become pilots. Danyo is not only doing well in English and pre-army preparation, he is also excelling in physics and math and even works part time distributing fliers to make some pocket money and contribute to the family finances.
Itzhik's aim is to stay at the top of the class in English which he has accomplished in this, his Bar Mitzvah year.
I was also asked to help a nursing student with English in the HU program. Rifka came to me a few times. We worked intensively and she got excellent feedback on her projects. She graduates this year and will be an outstanding nurse."
ESRA is proud of its volunteers who help at 40 schools throughout the country as part of our tutoring program.
