Students Build a Neighborhood

Description of the Project :

The projects have two main tracks:

1. To break the negative spirals of behaviour tempting youth toward crime by:
  • creating opportunities in education, social integration and community involvement for children, youth and their families
  • developing individualized approaches and programs for families in the neighbourhood.
2. To assist motivated students to complete their University studies by giving them living accommodation and/or scholarships.
How the Project Works :
The students live in the neighbourhoods and are role models for all the children, showing them by example that they too can achieve anything.  Each student is given a scholarship for studying and living expenses.
Children are helped with homework and social skills. They come to the students in their apartments and see how the students live and work. In addition, all the children have  joint social activities during the month. Students also help within the families and the neighbourhood.

About the Participants :
Hefzibah, Netanya: 11 students live in 4 apartments in the neighborhood. 44 children from 4th-6th grades, get 6 hours of help a week.

Herzliya: 6 students live in apartments in the neighbourhood. 24 youth from 7th & 8th grades get 6 hours of help a week.

Kiryat Nordau, Netanya: 9 students live in 3 apartments in the neighbourhood, each mentoring 3 children from the 4th, 5th and 6th grades for 6 hours a week.

  • All  the students give more hours in the projects with the larger community.
  • Students who receive extra scholarships give more hours to the neighbourhood and to special projects in the community.
