Elections will take place for Chairperson, Vice Chairperson and Members of the Executive Board.An Extraordinary General Meeting will also take place on Sunday 6 May at noon, a procedural meeting to elect a new member of the control committee before the AGM. All ESRA members are invited. This month there are a wide selection of lectures and courses in our branches. You can find links to all our coming activities below, as well as links to some 'Good News' items to read about some of the more positive things happening in our wider ESRA family. ![]() We offer an excellent opportunity to hear a visiting lecturer from the US. Following the success of our first Senior Dilemma Forum we are following up with Part II on LEGAL ISSUES such as wills, apotropus and power of attorney. We'll be hoping to meet lots of ESRA supporters there (come and say hello), sell some of our wonderful Ethiopian gift items and cookbooks, and generally spread the word about ESRA. The wider English speaking public is invited to our very popular lecture series (in cooperation with Raanana Moadon Hazahav) now that it has moved to larger premises. From the beginning of April 2012 ESRA College lectures are held at the 'Mishkan for Art and Culture', 2A Hapalmach Street, Raanana. Lectures are held on Monday mornings at 9am. Entry at door: one lecture, NIS 21, both lectures NIS 32.Do you want to re-activate the life & work skills you have acquired and learn how you can help your community? Welcome to ESRA's e-Newsletter for March 2012 If you can't see this page properly please click on http://www.esra.org.il/march-2012 We have a busy month of activities ahead of us, including the fun festival of Purim next week, and our office staff and volunteers at Beit Fisher are gallantly dealing with the multitude of requests that come in. It will quieten down somewhat in April as we approach a natural break around Pesach time. ![]() Tickets are selling fast for our special fundraising evening 'It Sounds Better in Amharic' on Thursday 29th March at the Mishkan in Raanana. In his one man hit show Yossi Vassa traces his long, arduous journey from his home village, mixing nostalgic memories of life in Ethiopia with hilarious perspectives on adjusting to modern-day Israel. Not to be missed! Tickets available from ESRA Beit Fisher 09-748 2957. You are also invited to a Wine Tasting at the Carmel Winery in Zichron Yaakov on Tuesday 20 March (7pm for 7.30pm). The evening includes a tour of the winery, tutored tasting and talk 'How to Enjoy Wine at Home' with international wine expert and writer Adam Montefiore. Entrance NIS 45 (ESRA members NIS 35) includes light refreshments with a pre-Pesach 10% reduction on all wine sales. A new 2-day Training Course for Befrienders is starting on March 20 for anyone who would like to join our team of volunteers who reach out to those who are ill or housebound, or who just need a friendly ear. The Senior Dilemma Forum, held at Beit Issie Shapiro on Dec 8th was an eye opener. The feedback forms were a great source of information and we are already planning the next forum to be held after Pesach which will concentrate on legal issues. Ingrid Gvili, our secretary for English speaking activities, is leaving after 5 years. We wish her all the best in her future ventures. We enjoyed having Ingrid in our ESRA family and thank her for her contribution. We would like to welcome Nanci Schwartz who will be taking over, and wish her luck. Our Senior Dilemma Forum at Beit Issie Shapiro in Raanana will bring together several experts in the field who will address the issues and choices as our aging loved ones can no longer take care of themselves. The Senior Dilemma Forum is to allow you to learn about the system here in Israel before you need it!! Join us! The Fashion Show held in November to raise money for a Student Scholarship was a resounding success. Many thanks to our hostess, to all those who attended, and to the Fashion Houses that took part. We are still in need of volunteers for the Ethiopian Handicrafts Project to help with sewing the embroidered designs on to the finished products so that the continuous demand for items can be supplied on time. It is to be hoped that the social democratic protest will bear fruit and that progress will be made towards true peace with our neighbours. ESRA plays its part in addressing the needs of disadvantaged sectors of our society and, with your help, will increase our efforts this coming year. ![]() One of our most popular ways of raising money is our Annual Raffle. A book of 10 tickets was sent out this month with the Rosh Hashana issue of ESRA MAGAZINE #161. Several of our branches are having a summer break but others have some interesting and new activities. ![]() Our Netanya Branch invites us to meet the author Barry Shaw on Thursday 30 June. Barry will talk about critical issues affecting Israel’s position in the world and how to counteract disinformation propaganda! On the same day ESRA Rehovot is holding its Annual General Meeting with a lecture on Al Jolson by ESRA Herzliya's own music maven Barbara Blum. North Coast, the newest ESRA branch (from the Krayot to Rosh HaNikra) is holding its launch event on Tuesday 5 July. Pass the message on to all your acquaintances who live in that area. Encouraged by the success of the ESRA Caesarea/Zichron brunches in popular local restaurants and cafes, the ladies of Kfar Saba and Hod Hasharon are starting a new Luncheon Club on Sunday 10th July. The Fashion Show held in November to raise money for a Student Scholarship was a resounding success. Many thanks to our hostess, to all those who attended, and to the Fashion Houses that took part. You can read more details in Glenis' report 


Can you sew? We are still in need of volunteers for the Ethiopian Handicrafts Project to help with sewing the embroidered designs on to the finished products so that the continuous demand for items can be supplied on time. Please
