Archival Trees
Mirvis Trees from Archival Documents

Data Sources for Archival Trees & Obituary List
   Archival Trees from Revision Lists
   Archival Trees from HaMeilitz Postings
Archival Trees from London Jews Shelter Archives
Archival Trees from South African Archives
   Archival Trees from Cemetery Readings
   Archival Trees from U.S. Archives
Archival Trees from Yad Vashem Archives
   Obituaries from Obituary Daily Times
   Persons from Family History Library

The data sources used by MRG (to find Mirvis's who lived in Lithuania in the 19th century, for the preparation of the Archival Trees, and for the Obituary List) were as follows:

    Revision Lists (Lithuanian Archives)
    Additional Revision Lists (Lithuanian Archives)
    HaMeilitz Hebrew newspaper, personal postings
    London Poor Jews Temporary Shelter
South African Estate, Naturalization & Other Records
    South African Gravestone Readings
International Jewish Cemeteries Project Data Base
    U.S. Gravestone Readings
U.S. Archives (SS, Census, Obituaries, YIVO,...)
Search Bureau for Missing Relatives (Jerusalem)
    Yad Vashem Records (Jerusalem)
    Obituary Daily Times
    Family History Library

These archival data bases were searched by MRG for the surname "Mirvis" (the normal transliteration from the documentary Cyrillic to English), as well as for all other spelling variations (as appropriate), and the Archival Trees below were constructed from the data.

Archival Trees are always rather small, since the source data bases usually deal with small family groups.  Thus, in the case of Revision Lists, they include only those family members who lived with the Head of Household listed in Revision Lists, plus the names of the Head of Household's father and (sometimes) mother.

Frequently, the son or daughter of the HOH was married and lived with the HOH together with their spouse and children.  The other family members could include relatives of the core family, such as cousins, nephews, nieces, and other more distant relatives.  Thus, such small trees include at most four generations of one family unit.

Inter-tree familial links can occasionally be suspected between one archival tree and another, but usually this is not possible.  In cases where such a link was suspected for one class of source (for example, the families lived together in the same house), the trees were placed together in one file, hoping that some time in the future a definite link might be established using additional data.  Files containing such multiple potential links are placed on one line in the tree-access table below.

Printing a copy of an archival tree can be accomplished in several ways, all of which will avoid problems because of the dark background color of the web page.  The first way is to set printing options to ignore background colors.  Under Microsoft IE browser, there is an option under menu item Tools called 'Internet Options'.  Click on the Advanced tab and under Printing section uncheck-mark the box 'Print background colors & images'.  That keeps the text formatting but dumps the background.  The corresponding Netscape Navigator option is under menu item File called Page Setup.  Uncheck-mark the box 'Print backgrounds'.

Alternatively, you could save the tree to a file on your hard disk, using "Save as" for example, but using a TEXT file extension.  That is, when "Save as" asks you for the name of the file to save to, answer something like "filename.txt", being careful to use the txt extension. This will save the file as a non-html, ordinary text file, and then you can print it out just as you would any other text file -- the background colors will be lost in this kind of Save.
