ESRA volunteer Denise Sussman reported one one of her projects - the dance group in Neot Shaked, Netanya, a group of 10-11 year old girls learning Ethnic Ethiopian dancing.
'Last month two groups of French kids from a Jewish youth group called 'Ezorim' were invited, by the Matnas, to participate in a dance class where their teacher, Almaz, taught them Ethiopian dancing. Our little girls danced with the French kids to demonstrate the steps.
It was wonderful to see how they all joined in and had such fun - even the visiting boys! Our group then gave a performance on the stage in their lovely long dresses, afterwards joining the French group again who just wanted to go on dancing. I loved the way the visitors took such an interest in the little girls and made a real fuss of them. How they communicated with each other, I don't know, but language didn't seem to matter.
Then, to top it all, two French boys slipped into the dressing room, put on the girls' long dresses and danced for everyone on the stage!
The afternoon ended with a meal for everyone - an abundance of food where most of them had second helpings!
It was the group's last visit before returning to France and their leader told me that this was the best afternoon's enjoyment of all their trip. It was great!'
