Project of the Month

These programs allow talented underprivileged teenagers to fulfill their potential by providing them with a challenging program of enrichment and leadership training at the Ruppin Institute of Marine Science. Talented 7th graders from all backgrounds of Israeli society in the lower socio-economic levels are chosen - programs run for 2 years.

    Well done to ESRA Team Netanya who won for the second time running with 173 pts!! Runners Up Team Patri Patriota at Sandra & Bernard's in Raanana with 157pts., and the Masterminds of Modiin with 155pts.

    A big thanks to all the organisers, questionmasters and hosts who made it such a success with 18 teams taking part. All profits this year go to the Social Club for Special Needs Young Adults in Kfar Shmaryahu.

    Yesterday we had a special guest at the Social Club for Disabled Young Adults in Kfar Shmaryahu. Amidst much anticipation and excitement, Achinoam Nini arrived to participate in the evening’s activities.

    Members were invited to ask questions which Achinoam graciously answered, explaining and telling special stories.

    Thanks to the generous donation of Natalie and Eddie Shapiro, our new skateboard group, in the name of the Mayer Shapiro Skateboard Fund, opened in Neot Shaked, Netanya on Monday night.  And wasn't it exciting?  The kids sat open-mouthed and wide-eyed during the introductory evening, with their parents equally impressed!

    The SIGD Festival, one of the happiest festivals of the Ethiopian Community, took place in Hefzibah and Neot Shaked this year on the 29th November.

    Sigd falls on the 29th of Cheshvan, which is 50 days after Yom Kippur, [their interpretation the biblical commandment  "And you shall count from the day after the Shabbat… seven full weeks"].

    ESRA’s Annual Scholarship Award Event is one of the most outstanding happenings in our calendar.  Thirteen students from ESRA’s ‘Students Build a Community” project had the opportunity to meet the donors who have generously supplied their scholarships. A moving experience for all those present.

    ESRA kicked off its inaugural relaunch in Eilat last night with a BBQ held at the home of Carolyne and Alan Davis. The evening was a great success, with several new members signing up on the spot and more showing interest.

    Our ESRA Ramat Aviv bus was filled with happy travelers ready for a day trip to Jerusalem and the Israel Museum. How lucky to find the road to Jerusalem practically empty and we arrived in record time, enjoying the views along the way.

    ESRA Givatayim hosted pharmacologist Jennifer Bell speaking on the topic of the correct use of medicines. The evening attracted many people - after all we all imbibe pills in one form or another....

    ESRA  Haifa's November meeting hosted Elkan Levy at Bet Hecht on the Central Carmel, introduced by vice-chair Harry Hiller. The event was well attended with around 40 members and friends.

    As we start our new season of activities we have been busy behind the scenes planning a programme and working together with the local Municipality to increase our involvement towards making Rishon a better place for all its residents.
