Project of the Month

These programs allow talented underprivileged teenagers to fulfill their potential by providing them with a challenging program of enrichment and leadership training at the Ruppin Institute of Marine Science. Talented 7th graders from all backgrounds of Israeli society in the lower socio-economic levels are chosen - programs run for 2 years.

It's the happiness of accomplishment lighting up a pathway into ‎a brighter future. It's the Students Build a Community End-of-Year event.‎

    On a sunny day in May ESRA travelers boarded our bus for a 2-day overnight trip to the Western ‎coast and Galil.‎ First stop was the unique Tunisian Synagogue in Akko, the result of 54 years of ‎work of local resident Zion Badasche.

    On a hot day in May, 37 ESRA members and non-members braved the heat to visit the new Planetanya, in Netanya (opened in ‎‎2016).  As the name suggests this is ‎a center that explores science and the planets.‎

    Zappa in Haifa generously hosted a most successful show to raise money for the ESRA ‎Haifa Branch support of a project for children with ‎learning difficulties.‎

    Henry Gild, one of ESRA's stalwart hikers since the inception of the Midweek hikes with Jack Rabinowitz, was so impressed by ESRA's latest day trip to the Gilboa, Beit Shean, Beit Alpha and Tel Yisrael, that he was moved to write this piece:

    "As long as there is one hungry child in Israel – I will perform" These were the words of the eminent Conductor, Composer and Pianist Gil Shohat as he once again introduced a musical evening of pure delight in aid of ESRA's "Hand in Hand Pantry" Campaign. 

    The proceeds of this concert ensures that hungry families will have sufficient food for this coming Pesach.

    An article written by Brenda Katten, ESRA's PR coordinator, and published in The Jerusalem Post, focusing on the Kfar Shmaryahu Club for Special Needs Young People, an ESRA project where Leslie Henan is an ESRA volunteer of many years standing.

    The Petach Tikva Arts & Crafts group evolved in August 2015 under the guidance of Edna Chayen and has had monthly meetings since ‎then with either talks or workshops. The group also creates original and attractive articles for exhibition and sale at Charity Fairs.
