Project of the Month

These programs allow talented underprivileged teenagers to fulfill their potential by providing them with a challenging program of enrichment and leadership training at the Ruppin Institute of Marine Science. Talented 7th graders from all backgrounds of Israeli society in the lower socio-economic levels are chosen - programs run for 2 years.

    On a drizzly early morning, 21 people gathered at Platform 1 in Nahariya train station and ‎boarded the 8:54 train to Tel Aviv.‎

    Our plans were well laid out and a short bus trip delivered us to the main ‎entrance of Tel Aviv University, where we met up with our host and guide Yael Rosen. The tour ‎was arranged with the assistance of Chen Saar Cohen, who serves as the ‎director of public education.‎

    The annual ESRA Scholarship Award Event took place on 13 November at the ‎Hefzibah Community Center in Netanya with the attendance of over 50 donors and ‎representatives from almost every ESRA branch throughout the country as well as the ESRA ‎board and management staff.  ‎

    ESRA Netanya opened its lecture series with an outstanding and inspirational address by Rabbi Dov Lipman on Religion and State – Where are we heading?. He held his audience spellbound with his experiences during the period he was a member of the 19th Knesset representing Yesh Atid.

    ESRA’s Right Track Centers in Netanya have been helping the kids from Netanya’s weaker areas to get the grades to succeed in their matriculation exams.  These centers are in partnership with the Youth at Risk Division of the Netanya Municipality.

    2017_pre-school_project.jpgIn early summer 2017, we learned that many of the kids from the kindergarten next door to the Matnas in Heftziba, were not ready to begin first grade. They lacked some basic skills which are needed for first grade such as how to hold a pencil, recognizing and writing numbers, and many other skills that children should acquire before entering first grade.

    The trend today is either to take a family trip overseas and/or to organise a large party!  But what happens when you can do neither? Thanks to our wonderful donors, our 12 year old girls in the Students ‎Build a Community Projects in Netanya, had an evening to ‎remember.‎

    On a very beautiful, but very warm July morning, ESRA travelers boarded a refreshingly cool and comfortable bus for a relaxing ride to our day trip destination - The Weizmann Institute of Science and Technology in Rehovot.

    The energy is palpable. The air is bursting with enthusiasm. Evidence of ‎friendship and comradery is everywhere. It's happy energy, infused with ‎excitement. It's the happiness of accomplishment lighting up a pathway into ‎a brighter future. It's the Students Build a Community End-of-Year event.‎

    On a sunny day in May ESRA travelers boarded our bus for a 2-day overnight trip to the Western ‎coast and Galil.‎ First stop was the unique Tunisian Synagogue in Akko, the result of 54 years of ‎work of local resident Zion Badasche.

    On a hot day in May, 37 ESRA members and non-members braved the heat to visit the new Planetanya, in Netanya (opened in ‎‎2016).  As the name suggests this is ‎a center that explores science and the planets.‎
