Food Security: What will we eat in 20 years?

Professor Jonathan Gressel is an emeritus professor at the Weizmann Institute of Science and the recipient of the Israel Prize in Agriculture for 2010. The award was given to him as a world expert in plant biotechnology, with groundbreaking research on molecular mechanisms involved in various systems, including weed control, parasitic plants and preventing the spread of genetically engineered plants.

Prof. Gressel has had a distinguished career in the Weizmann Department of Plant Science and has authored over 300 papers and eight books. He has many interests in the area of plant science, and most recently founded a company TransAlgae to develop intensive methods of algal farming for various purposes, including biofuel. His current interest is in securing food supplies, with an emphasis on the role of genetic engineering.
