ESRA Rehovot AGM and lecture

The Rehovot-area branch of ESRA invites its members and friends to its

Annual General Meeting and an evening of nostalgia featuring

'The Life and Music of Al Jolson'    presented by  Dr. Barbara Blum

Jewish-American singer, Al Jolson, was born Asa Yoelson in 1886 in Lithuania.  His father, a cantor emigrated to the U.S., and sent for his family when Jolson was seven.  His career started in vaudeville, but his extaordinary talent was soon recognized and he became a Broadway success.  His film "The Jazz Singer" is cinematic history.

Barbara Blum, who gave  a wonderful talk on Jan Peerce at our AGM two years ago, was born in London, where she trained and worked as a dentist.  After retiring in 1985 and moving to Israel, her love of music and extensive CD collection inspired her to start musical supper evenings in her home with some of her friends.  This was the beginning of the Barbara Blum musical presentations.
