In the past school year ESRA Rehovot launched a program for “Conversational English for Oral Bagrut”. The feedback from schools, students and volunteers is very positive. Some of the volunteers describe this as one of their most rewarding experiences and almost without exception are eager to continue next year.

Notably, our definite feeling of accomplishment is measurable also by an increase in the successful achievements of the kids in the exams. The English coordinators are counting on us to be there for them next year.

Overall, fourteen volunteers participated, nine at WIZO High School throughout the winter semester and five at DeShalit in March and April  (we could have used many more there for that short but intense period).

The volunteers are not required to be teachers, but should be native English speakers willing to donate their time and their knowledge of their native language in order to assist schoolchildren. We want to encourage ESRA members and others in the “Anglo-Saxon” community in Rehovot and area to join in this project. If we have an increase in our pool of volunteers we will explore the possibility of launching the project in another high school.
