AFTER
SCHOOL CENTERS FOR KINDERGARTEN CHILDREN
|
Rationale:
To offer an enriching, warm, supportive and
caring environment, after
kindergarten hours, for immigrant and
local pre-schoolers from dysfunctional families, where problems
of alcoholism, divorce, chronic illness and unemployment cause children
to be 'at risk'. |
|
Operation:
The centers are run in co-operation with local
and central government, and volunteers. Children, mostly new immigrants
from Ethiopia and the FSU, are referred by the municipal Social
Services Department.
Location:
Kfar Saba: Currently
twenty four children, aged 4-6, are transported daily to the Center,
which was opened in 1993
The
Program:
The Center provides a nurturing and stabilising home away from home.
The children receive a hot meal, and work in small groups on enrichment
activities, educational games and language development. |
