
SEWING
CENTERS FOR
IMMIGRANTS

Rationale:
To
enable new immigrants from Ethiopia - men and women - to make and
repair their and their families' clothes on sewing machines, and
to enable them to sew for profit.
More advanced students earn money by sewing items for ESRA's Ethiopian
embroidery project

Operation:
ESRA
supplies sewing machines, fabric and instruction by a qualified
teacher, and volunteers assist by teaching, repairing and maintaining
the machines.
The
Program:
Instruction
and practice in groups of twenty adults, once or twice weekly. Volunteers
obtain donations of materials, cottons, patterns and accessories
without which the project would not work. Opened in 1996. |

In
four Netanya neighborhoods:
Kiryat Nordau,
Neot Ganim, Neot Shaked &
Ramat Yadin.
Past Centers: Beerotayim caravan site, Kfar Yona Community Center.
